The week started and ended on our swing mooring, which ensures Faith is protected from the elements that Fiordland can throw at her! We know as tour operators in the Fiordland region the weather comes and goes and dramatically changes, however this year has seen more of these days than most. How fabulous it was to enjoy some brighter days, the bush was alive with the sound of Cicada’s and birdlife, and the forrest has a fresh smell of Autumn.
On Tuesday afternoon we returned to see an artist on holiday here creating a night version painting of Faith on the wharf. We’ve had some lovely evenings sailing and anchoring for our evening champagne cruises, the perfect way to end a day after exploring the great outdoors. You’ll also see a clip of the Fiordland swim club doing some open water swimming in the designated swim area of the lake, in front of the yacht club and steamers beach. These guys do tow floats in order to be seen but it’s also important to remember that this area of the lake is designated for non motorised vessels and swimmers only.
Jimmy the office dog enjoyed supervising from our kiosk down on the wharf, and enjoyed saying “hello” to everyone who past by!
Each day we are out, we never get tired of our backyard, our views and the ever changing wilderness. Especially in the rain, don’t let the rain put you off, we believe Fiordland is somewhat magic surrounded by raindrops! (Lucky for us as we have some 200 rain days a year!)
There were a few busy events on the lake on Saturday and boy did the weather come out to play! 22 swimmers took part in the 1.9km swim across Lake Te Anau, followed in the afternoon by the Dome Island yacht race, however ironically there was not enough wind for them to venture all the way to Dome island, so a race in the bay took place instead.
Then Sunday, the wind arrived and we put Faith back on her mooring! What a week. Thank you to all who joined us and continue to support us in our little corner of the world!
